Why is it important?
Physical activity not only has many health benefits but it also helps you to feel motivated and happier. Exercising is like a magical pill for your body. It will make you feel good (except the first couple of weeks of course as your body will need to get used to it).
Inactivity has been identified as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality causing an estimated 3.2 million deaths globally, according to the World Health Organisation.
In fact, by increasing your physical activity, you will decrease the risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes type 2, among others. Exercising lowers your blood pressure, strengthens your heart and it lowers the sugar levels in your blood.
In the same way, exercising burns off stress, boosts your mood and self-esteem. After a workout session, you normally feel more energetic, happier and calmer. But do not take my word for it, Try it and comment on your experience!
How to fit working out within your hectic lifestyle?
For example, you can workout for 15-20 minutes each time. Whether you exercise at home, at the gym or attend a class. You must find what you enjoy. Otherwise find a fitness instructor to give you different options or search online for workouts that suit your routine.
Make it a habit to set a time and a date to workout. Do not give yourself a chance to skip the workout and you will be less likely to fail. So what happens if you do fail on a day (Or worse a few days or even weeks?!) well, start again. Please understand that we are human and our lives will have many ups and downs.
Before performing an exercise, make sure that you understand how to do it correctly and practise it a few times to ensure your technique is right. Also, make sure you have a clear goal. Understand your reasons to start your training. Whether it is weight loss, toning, increasing muscle size, to increase endurance or just to be more active.
Excuses or results
Getting back into exercising is the hardest part. Once you make a decision that you will lead a healthy life, just start, put on your gym gear and go to the gym, head to the local park, hire a trainer or get your exercise mat out.
Whatever you decide to start with, make sure you enjoy it. Mix working out with socialising, it will help you to stay motivated. Have fun, enjoy it and find new and better ways to workout. Weight training, sports and dancing are all different but all are very good ways to stay active.
Forget the “maybe I will” or “I hope it happens”. You will be destined for failure if you say things like this. Make sure you believe in yourself and in your ability to change, this is the new you. Today you are the better and happier version of yourself that will follow through. Remember that it only takes that you believe in something for it to happen. Hard as it may seem, find a way to lead a balanced lifestyle and to make long lasting changes.
Stay happy, healthy and motivated!
